I. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course covers principles involved in
installing and managing an Internet Information Server (IIS) either for in-house Intranet or
public Internet access. Starting with fundamentals of IIS and continuing
with the administration, students will also learn how to configure the
server to allow for active content, and how to create and access databases.
II. LEARNING OUTCOMES AND ELEMENTS
OF THE PERFORMANCE:
Upon successful completion of this course,
the student will:
- Demonstrate an understanding of what
IIS is and the various configuration options.
Elements of the Performance:
- Define Internet.
- Define Intranet.
- Describe the role of a web server.
- Install IIS.
- Describe IIS subcomponents and architecture.

Configure the main subcomponents of the Internet Information Server.
Elements of the Performance:
- Demonstrate an
understanding of how to configure the WWW Server.
- Demonstrate an
understanding of how to configure the FTP Server.
- Demonstrate an
understanding of how to configure the SMTP Server.
- Demonstrate an
understanding of how to configure the NNTP Server.

Demonstrate the ability to administer an IIS server.

- Describe the
need for IIS security.
- Perform the
steps required to secure the IIS.
- Explain the
types of IIS authentication.
- Describe the
different IP protocol versions.
- Perform the
steps required to configure IPv4 and IPv6.
- Complete a
Domain Name System (DNS) installation.
- Describe
different methods used to administer IIS.
- Explain and
put into effect different encryption schemes.
- Describe and
apply different forms of logging.
- Configure for Interactive Content.

- Explain Active
Content, Active Clients, and Active Servers.
- Demonstrate an
understanding of how to configure Active Server Pages (ASP).
- Demonstrate an
understanding of how to configure Internet Server Application Programming
Interface (ISAPI).
- Create a secure website from scratch.
Elements of the Performance:
- Demonstrate the ability to create a
secure web server capable of serving active server pages and accessing a
database.
